Condition is NOS. A couple small marks from long term storage. The box does show a good amount of wear. Please see pictures.
These are technically Jeepers made by Converse, even though they have the converse logo. The soles have a Sears-based diamond pattern and the aglets are made of metal, like Jeepers are. Sears Roebuck, Jeepers and Converse:
Sears Roebuck started their "Jeepers" athletic shoes in the early 1950s and 60s as a more affordable athletic shoe. (The earliest reference to a Converse style shoe under the brand of Jeepers I've been able to find is 1948!) All of the high-tops produced during this time were made by Converse and all of the low-tops were made by Uniroyal (now called Keds). The "Jeepers" branding did not last long, as they gained a reputation as "cheaper jeepers" even though they were made by the same company with a different logo. In the early 1970s (1972 is the earliest we've found) Sears started phasing out the Jeepers line and moved to The Winners and a Converse/Adidas manufacturing agreement. Dating:
By looking through several Sears Roebuck catalogs we believe these are from 1968 but could be off a year or three, up or down. While the catalogs are a great reference not every style of item makes it into the catalogs in any given year. The vertical lined toe appears to be phased out from 1966 and a more diamond pattern (as shown in these shoes) appears to have been introduced in 1967. The diamond sole pattern with these appear across a long period. What I have not seen anywhere at all is the non-all-star Converse patch. We do have another pair of white Jeepers for sale with actual Jeepers branding. (If there's a vintage sneakerhead out there that knows better I'm all ears. Vintage research is a passion of ours.)
